Cheaper and mostly less harmful, natural remedies is certainly the alternate lifestyle we all ought to look at more seriously. This of course, would include making one's own deo right at home itself. Here are some DIY deo making ideas:

1) The goodness of butter

The goodness of butter in personal beauty products are unparalleled. Though it may sound strange but it can help create a moisturizing deodorant, which you can make at home for effective use. Ingredients include 1 tablespoon of cocoa butter, 2 tablespoons of Shea butter, 1 tablespoon of baking soda, 2 tablespoons of corn starch, 2 teaspoons of Aloe Vera gel, and 20-30 drops essential oil of choice. One can experiment with options like peppermint oil which have a lasting freshness effect.

Special Tip: While melting the butter in the microwave, one ought to stir after 20 to 30 seconds to ensure even consistency. Total heating should be around 1-2 minutes.

2) A travel friendly beeswax option
There is always the need for deodorants to be temperature stable, especially when it is used as a travel friendly option like this one. The goodness of beeswax for the skin is a long story of nourishment and health, but here it helps is making it more temperature friendly. Ingredients include 6 grams of beeswax, 40 grams of coconut oil, 35 grams of baking soda, 15 grams of arrow-root (or other starch, such as potato starch, corn starch, etc.), and 20 drops of palmarosa essential oil. The Palmarosa oil is known to have a strong medicinal effect apart from having a strong deodorizing effect on the preparation.

Special Tip: The beeswax and coconut oil are meant to be heated slowly over boiling water, and not overheated. The stirring should continue from time to time, for the right blend. The arrowroot, baking soda, and the essential oils ought to be added after removal from heat, and blended into a consistent mixture before storing.

3) The combination of tea tree and lemon grass oil

Details about the the properties of tea tree oil and lemon grass are many, but one thing most popularly known about both is, their deodorizing properties. That is what makes it an obvious choice for essential ingredients, when there is something being done from home. The constituents of this deodorant mixture include 1-1/3 cups of extra virgin coconut oil, 1-1/2 tablespoons of beeswax shavings or beads (increase if you live in a warmer climate), 1/4 cup of baking soda, 3/4 cup of arrowroot powder, 2 tablespoons of clay, 25 drops of tea tree essential oil, and 5 drops of lemongrass essential oil.

Special Tip: Due to the presence of wax, and also that of coconut oil, temperatures could be a bit of a problem to maintain consistency and form. This deo is to be used like a roll-on, hence needs to be kept in the fridge after each use, especially if the temperatures are really warm. Also, while making the mixture, the wax has to be melted slowly and blended in with the coconut oil before the other ingredients are added.

Most of the home made deodorants out there, essentially have similar constituents, and the mixture making is virtually the same. What differs and essentially leaves a lot to be experimented with, are the essential oils. Different fragrances and different medicinal properties make them ideal for use in home made products as these deodorants. However, the major benefit which many nature lovers would agree, is that it all keeps one away from the chemical load that most commercial deodorants have. Great for health and great feeling of smelling good, all in one.

Note: This is not a strict guideline for making home-made made products, but more of an idea generator. Professional advice regarding ingredients should always be referred to before trying these products out.
